Article explores the impact of globalization on Puerto Rico (PR) & argues for the development of a revolutionary program. The establishment of the Boricua-Macheteros’ Popular Army & its struggle for independence from neocolonial policy are introduced. The Macheteros’ analyses of globalization, neoliberalism, & privatization are presented with attention to the role of the US & implications for PR. Internal factors that may be problematic in the construction of a revolutionary program in PR are evaluated.

The author states in her speech: “Racism and homophobia are real conditions of all our lives in this place and time. I urge each one of us here to reach down into that deep place of knowledge inside herself and touch that terror and loathing of any difference that lives there. See whose face it wears…”

This speech in open access from the organization called the Catalyst Project, which believes that everyone in the world has the right to live with dignity, safety, and access to resources that are in balance with the earth. “We believe that racism is one of the fundamental forces keeping systemic injustice in place, and as white people we believe we have a strategic role to play in ending it. Catalyst Project is committed to building the leadership of white people to be part of anti-racist social movements working for fundamental change.”

“It would seem to me the proposition before the House, and I would put it that way, is the American Dream at the expense of the American Negro, or the American Dream *is* at the expense of the American Negro. Is the question hideously loaded, and then one’s response to that question – one’s reaction to that question – has to depend on effect and, in effect, where you find yourself in the world, what your sense of reality is, what your system of reality is. That is, it depends on assumptions which we hold so deeply so as to be scarcely aware of them.”

This is a paper by Black feminists who have been meeting together since 1974. “During that time we have been involved in the process of defining and clarifying our politics, while at the same time doing political work within our own group and in coalition with other progressive organizations and movements.  Four major topics in the paper focus on: (1) the genesis of contemporary Black feminism; (2) what we believe, i.e., the specific province of our politics; (3) the problems in organizing Black feminists, including a brief herstory of our collective; and (4) Black feminist issues and practice.

In the preface for This Bridge Called My Back, feminist writer Cherrie Moraga explores the inspiration and purpose behind writing the anthology, ultimately leading back to the principle that women need to embrace each other’s differences—in race, sexuality, and socio-economic class—, while being all-inclusive, in order for women to unite and conquer the adversity of being female. The book centers on the experiences of women of color and emphasizes the points of intersectionality within their multiple identities, challenging white feminists who made claims to solidarity based on sisterhood.

Woman’s demand for equal suffrage is based largely on the contention that woman must have the equal right in all affairs of society. No one could, possibly, refute that, if suffrage were a right. Alas, for the ignorance of the human mind, which can see a right in an imposition. Or is it not the most brutal imposition for one set of people to make laws that another set is coerced by force to obey? Yet woman clamors for that “golden opportunity” that has wrought so much misery in the world, and robbed man of his integrity and self-reliance; an imposition which has thoroughly corrupted the people, and made them absolute prey in the hands of unscrupulous politicians.

The poor, stupid, free American citizen! Free to starve, free to tramp the highways of this great country, he enjoys universal suffrage, and, by that right, he has forged chains about his limbs. The reward that he receives is stringent labor laws prohibiting the right of boycott, of picketing, in fact, of everything, except the right to be robbed of the fruits of his labor. Yet all these disastrous results of the twentieth-century fetich have taught woman nothing. But, then, woman will purify politics, we are assured.

This book is no longer copyrighted because of its age (1911). Free to use but give credit.
